CardioAid Plant SterolsToday, approximately 100 million adults in the U.S. - nearly one-half of the adult population - have higher than desirable levels of cholesterol.

Studied for more than 50 years, plant sterols are proven to significantly lower cholesterol levels.

In fact, the FDA has authorized the claim that “Foods containing at least 0.4 gram per serving of plant sterols, eaten twice a day with meals for a daily total intake of at least .8gram, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.  Incorporating ADM’s CardioAid® plant sterols into foods and beverages is an effective way to help consumers lower cholesterol."

Research shows that consumers want to learn about lowering cholesterol and that nearly 60 percent of adults with high cholesterol adopt lifestyle changes to treat it.  Now, food manufacturers can meet the needs of health-conscious consumers by helping them make those lifestyle changes with ADM’s line of CardioAid plant sterols.

How Do They Work?
When we eat foods that contain dietary cholesterol (which is found in animal products like meat and eggs), our intestinal tract absorbs that cholesterol and puts it into the bloodstream. Plant sterols are chemically similar to dietary cholesterol found in animal products. When plant sterols travel through the digestive tract, they get in the way of dietary cholesterol being absorbed into the bloodstream. Therefore, less total cholesterol is absorbed by the body when plant sterols are present.
