Traffic Advisory:  Section of 55th Avenue on ADM Property to Close Permanently Sept. 23

On Sept. 23, Archer Daniels Midland Company will close the ADM-owned portion of 55th Avenue, at the intersection of 52nd Street, as part of a railroad track expansion that will reduce ADM’s railcar traffic through the downtown corridor.

The expanded track capacity will allow ADM to ship 100-car trains from our plant, and will reduce railcar movements across the city. Currently, for most shipments, railcars must travel back and forth four times across the city, blocking four separate roadways. This expansion will eliminate the need for four separate movements.

We regret any inconvenience the closure may cause our neighbours and local businesses. This road has run through ADM’s property for many years, and until now, we have been able to adapt our rail operations to allow the public to continue using it. But the needs of our growing business now make the closure necessary.

To allow for proper planning, ADM has provided notice of the road closure to city officials, the school divisions, and local police, fire and emergency-services departments. In addition, the company has established an email address local residents can use to submit questions:

We thank you for your understanding.
