Netherlands

In the Netherlands, where we employ nearly 700 people, ADM is a leading processor of cocoa and oilseeds.

ADM acquired a soybean crushing plant at Europoort in 1986, and we expanded our presence on the harbor in 2004 with the acquisition of a bulk terminal that enables us to unload vessels containing more than 100,000 tons of crops directly into barges, trucks and trains. At Europoort, ADM produces meals and unrefined oils used primarily in animal feed applications.

ADM acquired its cocoa processing facility in Koog aan de Zaan in 1997. The plant produces cocoa powder, cocoa liquor and cocoa butter for global customers, and for use in the ADM brands Ambrosia®, De Zaan® and Merckens®. Koog aan de Zaan is also home to our cocoa product support and development teams. These professionals use their expertise to match ADM ingredients with customers’ ideas for new products, including baked goods, ice cream, dairy products, cereals and confectionery.

In addition, ADM markets a variety of specialty food ingredients – particularly soy protein isolates, soy concentrates, texturized soy products, soy lecithin and xanthan gum – from offices in Koog aan de Zaan to customers throughout Europe, Africa, Middle East.

ADM also has ownership interest in Singapore-based Wilmar International Limited, which has locations in the Netherlands. Wilmar is a large agricultural processing business, and operates palm plantations; crushing facilities for various types of oilseeds; vegetable oil refineries and packaging facilities; plants that produce oleo chemicals, soy proteins and fertilizers; and multiple wheat and rice milling operations.
