ADM Celebrates Fifth Global Safety Week

06/21/2011
Work continues toward zero workplace injuries

During the week of June 13, Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) employees and contractors around the world observed the company’s annual Global Safety Week. This is the fifth year ADM has held Global Safety Week to sustain the company’s downward trend in injuries and to reinforce the belief that “Zero is Possible” when it comes to workplace injuries.

During its current fiscal year, ADM has reduced global lost workday injuries by 9 percent and has reduced global total recordable injuries by 16 percent, compared to the company’s previous fiscal year. Since 2007, the first year in which ADM observed Global Safety Week, ADM has reduced global lost workday injuries by 54 percent and has reduced global total recordable injuries by 47 percent.

“The safety of our employees and contractors is a top priority for ADM, and I am pleased to share that April 2011 was ADM’s safest month on record—more colleagues went home safe at the end of the day in April than any other time in our company’s history,” said Pete Taschner, ADM vice president, Safety and Health. “While celebrating the progress we have made, we also must continue our work toward zero workplace injuries.”

ADM’s Global Safety Week focused on the company’s values as the way to zero workplace injuries. ADM’s values—integrity, respect, excellence, resourcefulness, teamwork and responsibility—demonstrate the company’s commitment to working safe every day, so that all of our employees and contractors go home safe to family and friends.

During the week, employees participated in a variety of activities, including conducting plant safety tours, meetings and discussing ways the ADM Values help them stay safe on the job.
