ADM Expands Processing and Storage at Oilseeds Plant in Olomouc, Czech Republic

11/09/2011
Diversifying products and improving processes to better serve local partners

ROLLE, SWITZERLAND, Nov. 10, 2011 – Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) has announced an expansion project to diversify and increase efficiency at its oilseeds processing facility in Olomouc, Czech Republic. The expansion project includes new equipment to diversify the plant’s product range, as well as increased storage capacity and improvements to production processes. As a result of the changes, the site will be able to accommodate higher volumes of different raw materials, therefore enabling ADM to buy more crops from local suppliers and diversify its product offering to customers.

“The increased investment in our Olomouc facility underscores our commitment to be a strong, stable partner to local producers, suppliers and customers,” said René Van der Poel, general manager at Olomouc. “The expansion and improvements will allow us to better connect Czech farmers’ crops to key markets.”

In order to expand the service and product offering at the Olomouc site, the facility is adding equipment to more efficiently process sunflower seed, resulting in upgraded protein content in the sun meal the plant produces. To meet the demand for this new high-protein meal product, ADM will source greater amounts of conventional and high oleic sunflower seed from local suppliers.

“Adding a higher-protein sunflower meal to our product offering will open up more markets for local farmers as ADM diversifies its raw materials requirement,” explains Van der Poel.

The project will also increase storage capacity by building new silos, enabling the facility to accommodate larger volumes of raw materials and finished goods. Complementing the new equipment and storage, ADM has made several changes to improve the production process.

The expansion project marks ADM’s second year anniversary in the Czech Republic.

“ADM has had two successful years of business here in the Czech Republic and we look forward to our future of connecting local crops with key markets through our facility in Olomouc,” says Van der Poel. “We owe our success to the relationships we have built with local suppliers and customers, and we thank all of our Czech partners for the support and confidence they have shown us.”
