ADM, Super6 Carbon Announce Plans to Produce CDR Credits in Decatur
2025/10/30
CHICAGO—ADM (NYSE: ADM) and Super6 Carbon, Inc. (Super6 Carbon) signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to produce high-quality carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits through the permanent storage of captured carbon dioxide (CO₂) at ADM's carbon capture and storage (CCS) site in Decatur, Illinois.
Super6 Carbon develops engineered CDR projects and builds the carbon infrastructure required for permanent CO₂ storage. The company focuses on credit quality, affordability, and scalability—working with partners to deliver durable CDR that help buyers reach net-zero targets and strengthen the emerging carbon removal market.
As part of the agreement, Super6 Carbon will procure and deliver CO₂ for secure geological storage to ADM's existing CCS site in Decatur. This enables ADM to expand its carbon management business beyond bioethanol while advancing large-scale, verifiable CDR. ADM will receive a minority stake in Super6 once definitive agreements are finalized.
"ADM is a proven leader in CCS technology, operating one of only a few active commercial carbon storage facilities in North America," said Robert Alloway, President at Super6 Carbon. "Leveraging these existing operations ultimately gives us a unique opportunity to unlock near-term, industrial-scale, commercially viable CDR projects that address the growing demand for decarbonization."
"Decatur has ideal geological conditions for CCS operations, and we've been safely injecting CO2 for permanent storage into the Mt. Simon sandstone formation more than a mile underground here for over a decade," said Matt Kaloupek, Vice President of CCS at ADM. "CCS has the potential to be a true economic differentiator for this region, and this agreement with Super6 is a great example of the innovative ways we are looking to use this technology."
