Environmental Goals That Drive Progress
Our environmental efforts are guided by targeted goals covering greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy usage, water withdrawal and landfill diversion to drive measurable progress.
Climate
As ADM and the broader sector face climate-related physical and transition risks, it is important that we continue to mitigate our own impacts and put our business in a position to support our customers’ decarbonization strategies.
Our goals include:
- Achieve 25% absolute reduction in Scope 1 + 2 GHG emissions over 2019 baseline by 2035
- Achieve 25% absolute reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions over 2021 baseline by 2035

Energy
ADM’s operations depend on access to reliable, cost-effective sources of energy. ADM advances energy efficiency through the identification and implementation of system upgrades, new technologies and process improvements.
Our goals include:
- Achieve 15% reduction in energy intensity over 2019 baseline by 2035
- Increase renewable and low-carbon energy to 25% out of total energy use by 2035

Water
Water is a critical resource for ADM’s operations and is required in various applications such as processing, cooling, cleaning and steam generation. It is also a critical resource for the communities in which we operate, with some of these regions considered water-stressed and facing scarcity or quality concerns.

- Achieve 10% absolute reduction in water withdrawal over 2019 baseline by 2035
