ADM Recognized for Excellence in Environmental Information Management

2013-06-12

DECATUR, Ill., June 12, 2013 – Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE:ADM) received a 2013 IHS SPECTRUM Excellence Award for Project GEMINI (Global Environmental Management Information Network Initiative), an environmental management information system (EMIS) that will ultimately serve 700-plus facilities worldwide. The IHS SPECTRUM award, which was presented last night at the SPECTRUM Awards Gala dinner in Houston, Texas, honors outstanding leadership in the use of advanced information systems and best practices to achieve environmental, health and safety (EHS) and sustainability goals.

“ADM is committed to being a good steward of the environment, and we are proud to accept the IHS SPECTRUM Excellence Award,” said Bill Manley, technology center lead for ADM. “Project GEMINI is helping us ensure global compliance while also making our systems more efficient by providing a standardized tool for our environmental processes and reporting.”

During pilot testing, GEMINI performed successfully, managing ADM’s significant, highly diversified global needs. Its use promoted standardization through the collection and management of a broad variety of environmental compliance requirements within a unified framework. It also enabled the establishment of consistent industry best-practice workflows that ensured tasks were assigned, tracked and completed. The system is flexible enough to provide powerful data handling and reporting capabilities, but is still easy to use.

GEMINI's capabilities include compliance monitoring, tasking, auditing, air, water, waste, greenhouse gas and fugitive emissions oversight, chemical inventorying and more. While still in its early stages of implementation, it has, among other things, helped European and Latin American facilities maintain a broad variety of permits and helped U.S. facilities comply with regulations, such as Title V, TSCA and MACT. When fully implemented, GEMINI will be used by thousands of employees – working in 10 languages – at more than 700 facilities around the world.
