ADM to Highlight New Ingredients at IFT 2008
6/27/2008
Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) will showcase its ingredients for foods and beverages, including two new offerings – VegeFull™ bean ingredients and NutriSoy™ high-protein crisps – at the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Food Expo. The IFT Food Expo will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans from June 29 to July 1, 2008. ADM will be located at booth number 3415.
VegeFull
VegeFull puts all of ADM’s bean ingredients – including bean powders and ground cooked beans – under one line of products. Made from black, red, navy and pinto beans, VegeFull increases protein and fiber content while providing up to a full serving of vegetables. It can be used in foods such as bakery items, snacks, dips, salads, and dry soup mixes without altering taste or texture.
“By using VegeFull in foods, manufacturers can offer consumers interesting ways to incorporate more vegetables into their diets,” said Gordon Gregory, vice president and general manager, Edible Bean Specialties. “For example, with VegeFull, kids who don’t like to eat their vegetables can get up to a full serving of vegetables in unexpected ways, like in the bread on their sandwich.”
At IFT, ADM will feature VegeFull in a blueberry-almond cookie and a sausage and cheese Panini served with red beans and rice.
NutriSoy High-Protein Crisps
ADM now offers food manufacturers three varieties of NutriSoy protein crisps – 60 percent protein, 80 percent protein and 85 percent protein. Made from soy and wheat, the 85 percent protein crisps have one of the highest protein contents on the market. The 60 percent and 80 percent versions are made from soy.
The selection of crisps provides customers several options for incorporating a range of protein levels into products. The crisps can be used in such applications as nutrition bars, granola bars, cereals, confectionary items and as inclusions for baked goods and ice cream toppings, depending on the desired protein content.
“ADM already offers the industry’s widest selection of soy proteins,” said Mark Metivier, director of sales, Specialty Food Ingredients. “Our new protein crisps further broaden that portfolio and provide customers another option for incorporating even more protein into foods consumers love.”
At IFT, ADM will feature the crisps in a cranberry-apple crisp bar.
Cocoa and Other Ingredients
ADM will also feature several of its cocoa and chocolate products at IFT, including new De Zaan® Huysman™ bright cocoa powders in chocolate milk. The line of vibrant, red and brown powders enables manufacturers to visually distinguish products like ice creams and baked goods. An extension of the existing line of De Zaan cocoa powders, the new line is named after De Zaan founder Jan Huysman.
Additional chocolate products at IFT will include Ambrosia® chocolate chips in a chocolate chip cookie and Merckens® Ivory White, Marquis Milk and Yucatan Dark chocolates in a truffle.
Other ADM ingredients featured in food and beverage samples this year include NovaLipid™ zero grams trans-fat oils and shortenings in beignets; Fibersol®-2 dietary soluble fiber in a peaches-and-cream women’s meal replacement beverage; and SmartBind™ natural wheat protein isolate in a microwavable chocolate muffin.
