ADM Invests to Add Soy Crush Capacity at Straubing Plant

Ability for switch capacity will allow business to meet increasing demand for non-GMO soy mealSTRAUBING, Germany, October 14, 2015 — Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) announced today that it will invest to add switch capacity in order to process soybeans at its rapeseed crushing facility in Straubing, Germany. The new capability will allow the site to crush non-GMO soybeans sourced from the Danube region in order to market non-GMO soy meal to customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

“The ability to crush soybeans at our Straubing plant allows us to meet the growing market demand for non-GMO soy meal, particularly from customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland,” said René van der Poel, general manager, ADM Straubing. “At the same time, adding switch capacity to the facility, which currently only crushes rapeseed, will allow us the flexibility to respond to shifts in the marketplace.”

Added Jon Turney, general manager, European Soybean Crush, “This investment underscores ADM’s commitment to the Danube region by sourcing local raw materials to meet growing market demand. By sourcing non-GMO soybeans from the Danube region, ADM will not only provide farmers an outlet for those crops, but will also provide customers with meal from locally-grown beans, along with the possibility to market products using the Danube Soy® label.”

The project is targeted for completion in Q2 of 2016.
