Hungarian Food Bank Association Rescues 20,000 School Lunches with Support from ADM

The Hungarian Food Bank Association is proud to announce a significant milestone in its ongoing effort to combat food waste and hunger. With the invaluable support of ADM  an essential global agricultural supply chain manager and processor, providing food security by connecting local needs with global capabilities, the association has successfully saved and redistributed over 20,000 school lunches since September, ensuring that nutritious meals reach those in need.

The process of rescuing hot meals involves costly logistics and ADM's support, through its corporate social investment program ADM Cares, has not only funded the logistics of this initiative but also enabled the expansion of the program to a new school in the Pesterzsébet area. Here, the rescued meals are now providing nourishment to people experiencing homelessness. Since the inception of this partnership, over 20,000 meals have been donated, with the number continuing to grow each day.

This collaboration began three years ago when ADM first volunteered at the Food Bank to help pack canned goods. Today, in addition to volunteering,  the team is showing its  support through an ADM Cares grant to provide blast chillers and food containers to ensure that surplus meals are saved and lives are positively impacted. "This is the finest example of collective goodwill: when a company listens to the voices of its employees and supports causes that they are personally committed to, year after year. By funding school-based food rescue initiatives, ADM is also helping to spread a food-saving method that is unique across Europe – paving the way for other companies to embrace innovative local causes," said András Nagygyörgy, director of external relations at the Hungarian Food Bank Association.

"At ADM, we believe in the concept of shared value creation and generating change in all the places where we operate, and this includes building a better future for generations to come," said Jennifer Ballinger, director, ADM Cares. "We are proud to partner with the Hungarian Food Bank Association to help improve nutrition on a global scale which aligns with ADM's vision of unlocking the power of nature to enrich lives."

ADM's contributions were provided through ADM Cares, ADM's corporate social investment program. The program helps sustain and strengthen communities where ADM colleagues work, live and operate by directing funding to initiatives and organizations that drive meaningful social, economic and environmental progress worldwide, focusing on areas such as food security and the fight against poverty.
