ADM Announces Expansion of Hamburg Oil Refinery and Storage Facility

05/11/2006

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) has announced an expansion of its Hamburg facility with the addition of a palm oil refinery that will have an annual capacity of 350,000 metric tons per year. The expansion will also add 50,000 metric tons of additional storage capacity allowing the facility to receive Panamax-size vessel shipments.

With the addition of the palm oil refinery, the facility will have a capacity of over one million metric tons per year of rapeseed, soy and palm oils making it Europe’s largest vegetable oil refinery capable of simultaneously refining these oils. The Hamburg facility also includes Europe’s largest soy and rapeseed crushing plants.

“This expansion is another example of how ADM’s size and breadth allows us to supply food and industrial customers with what they need, when they need it and at an attractive cost,” stated Mark Zenuk, ADM Vice President and Managing Director-Europe. “The addition of palm oil refining in Hamburg will complete our product offering in a low cost and logistically advantageous location for Central and Eastern Europe.”

Construction is dependent upon applicable governmental approvals, and the plant is expected to be operational in early 2007.
